Spoken American English”

Enhance your American pronunciation and accent. The goal of the course is to “perfect” your pronunciation to be understood the first time ,to be confident and be proud of the way you speak. [+/-]

ESL students, TOEFL and TOEIC test takers, and all others for whom English is a second language and who want to improve their pronunciation will find this book and compact disc combination especially instructive. The new second edition presents a significantly increased number of exercises, all of them providing practice in every sound that is specific to American-style English. Emphasis is on stress and intonation patterns in conversational English. Recognition of these patterns is essential to fluent speech and listening comprehension. Four compact discs replace the first edition’s audiocassettes, and have been increased by 50 minutes in playing time to a total of 5 hours and 20 minutes.

When mastering English, nothing is more important than learning to pronounce the words and phrases so that you’re understood. ABOUT THIS BOOK
Echoing themes he sounded in his extraordinary keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Senator Barack Obama speaks in this book to Americans of all stripes [+/-]

who are weary of the smallness of U.S.politics today, and who long for something rooted in the faith and decency of the American Dream.

In The Audacity of Hope he draws on his experience as a senator and lawyer, a professor and father, a Christian and a skeptic, to illuminate the greatness of America’s original ideals — and to remind us how vital it is to keep them before us. Along the way he explores such charged topics as globalization, the notion of American exceptionalism, the function of religion in public life, and the struggle to find a shared language in a nation torn by differences. While sharing his personal views on family, faith, and values, he argues that our very survival depends on finding common ground.

Pundits and voters alike have hailed Senator Obama as a man of uncommon vision in an age of partisan opportunism. The Audacity of Hope is a book of transforming power, a foundation for those who long for a politics that acknowledges the nobility and complexity of our lives

About the Author

The documents that make up the English Banana.com Schools pack are not meant to be a fully exhaustive collection. This pack is a quick starter guide to running an English course and [+/-]

contains all the forms and paperwork you need to plan a course, enrol and assess learners, as well as keep sufficient records. Some of the documents are self-explanatory, e.g. the Class Posters or the Teacher’s Expenses Claim Form, while others have detailed notes, e.g. the Lesson Plan and Schemes of Work.

Levels:
We have created materials that can be used for courses at three distinct levels, because the free teaching materials on English Banana.com are largely aimed at these levels.

The levels are:

Beginner – from students with absolutely no knowledge of English or the alphabet (zerobeginners) to students who are starting to form basic sentences and who know survival English.

Elementary – students who are quickly improving and learning more vocabulary week in week out, and who are able to confidently make simple sentences. They can attempt to make complex sentences, but are still making a lot of mistakes in all areas of the language.

Intermediate – these students have overcome all the basic difficulties of learning the English language and are starting to branch out in their reading, writing, speaking and listening by experimenting with more difficult vocabulary and longer, more complex sentences. Mistakes happen, but they occur less frequently than at Elementary level and students are able to interact confidently in English in a wide range of social situations.

This new book will help you as you aim to make your written English:

a) clearer (and therefore more valuable to both you and your reader)
b) more impressive (making you or your company look more professional) [+/-]

The sources for these texts are wide-ranging: they are not simply misprints culled from humble parish magazines. They reflect what I have been reading over the past twelve months. I ended up finding so many mistakes that I thought they would form the basis of a useful workbook for anyone who wants to improve their written English. Not just students of English, but anyone who writes with the hope of someone reading their work – i.e. anyone who writes with the purpose of communication. The examples in this book include professional texts written by employees of major organisations, such as a national broadcaster, an international bank and a popular film monthly. There are also examples adapted from texts produced by smaller organisations, such as a large further education college, a regional tourism marketing group and a specialist publishing company. Amateur texts, written by people who don’t write for a living, are represented by material adapted from the likes of a local folk club’s “What’s On?” flyer, a local carnival brochure and a large cathedral’s weekly newsletter.
